Dog Soldier was born in the Spring of 1998 at the Kuntz Ranch in Linton, North Dakota.  He roamed with the wild bands of Nokota horses there until April 2000 when we purchased him.  He was known for staying just outside of his band and watching over them which is why he was named after the Indian Dog Soldiers.

The "Dog Soldier" was the defender of the village.  Each vowed that if their village was under attack, he would stake his sash to the ground with his knife or spear and not move from that spot unless he was killed or his tribe won the battle.  The "Dog Soldiers" were the bravest of the brave.
